1,000 Spokane 5th & 6th graders experience U.S. Figure Skating Championships

The Group Health Foundation brought 1,000 5th and 6th graders from seven title one schools in Spokane to experience ice skating during the 2010 U.S. Figure Skating Championships.

“This is a fantastic opportunity provided to these kids by Group Health,” said Peter Ellis coordinator of fitness & health for Spokane Public Schools. “Many of these children have never stepped foot inside the arena for an event, let alone being able to see these world class athletes competing in our nation’s most prestigious figure skating event right in their home town.” (more…)

Dr. Ed Reisman is the medical director of  the 2010 U.S. Figure Skating Championships coming to Spokane next week. Dr. Reisman, along with Dr. Alisa Hideg have been planning and preparing for the championships for more than a year. Dr. Reisman is also a past professional ice skater who skated pairs with his sister during the first year of medical school and now travels as the team doctor for U.S. Figure Skating.

Spokane doctor melds two passions, skating and medicine, at 2010 U.S. Figure Skating Championships

Alisa Hideg, MD, and assistant medical director of the 2010 U.S. Figure Skating Championships, is a past amateur ice skater and hockey skater who also volunteered as a team doctor at the 2007 U.S. Figure Skating Championships. She volunteers for local ski team, competitively surfs and is active in the local foster parent community.
