Medical Director of the 2010 U.S. Figure Skating Championships
When the U.S. Figure Skating Championships descend upon Spokane in January, you’ll find Ed Reisman, MD, overseeing medical care for the 1,500 athletes, coaches, officials, and staff who will participate in the eight-day competition.
He’s the medical director for the event, and Group Health Cooperative is the medical sponsor. Group Health will provide doctors, nurses, physical therapists, and other health professionals to work at the ice arena during the event.
Dr. Reisman is a Spokane Family Medicine Residency Faculty physician and will oversee the new Sports Medicine Fellowship here in Spokane. He is also a traveling doctor with the U.S. Figure Skating Team, and a former figure skater.
His skating background helps him understand the biomechanical causes of skating injuries because he’s trained for it himself.
The championships in Spokane are the culmination of a long competition season. The medical team will help skaters with their physical therapy and other care they need on the road—any injury, any illness.
Dr. Reisman attended University of California, Los Angeles for his undergraduate degree in Biology and Medical School. He did his residency in family medicine with the Family Practice of S.W. Idaho; Boise, Idaho and a fellowship in sports medicine with the University of California, Los Angeles. He lives in Spokane with his family.
